Ruth Amos is a multi-award-winning entrepreneur and inventor of StairSteady.
She won the 2006 Young Engineer of the Year award in Britain with her idea to aid mobility.
Ruth is also Co-Founder of Kids Invent Stuff and Managing Director of DROLS an educational toy start up. She is also a trustee of Greenbelt Festival and a passionate advocate of women in STEM.
Where do you live & who with?
Outskirts of Sheffield with my husband and two cats.
What do you love?
I love spending time with family, speaking in schools and businesses, coffee, swimming, problem solving and spending time in my businesses.
What does your daily life look like?
Everyday is different, I juggle my time between the businesses, speaking, building kids’ ideas, podcasting and meetings.
I spend a few days a month in London and Cornwall (where we film Kids Invent Stuff) and the rest around Sheffield. I try and keep vaguely sane by swimming and running, I love that each day is completely different and that I get to meet and work with so many fab people.
What inspires you to keep going?
I get to do what I love and am passionate about. Things don’t always go to plan, but I work with amazing people that keep me going. I also have the best support network.
What is your greatest passion?
This is a hard one, I don’t think I have just one. I am a real advocate for women in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) and women in general. I think more young women should consider a career that involves STEM.
What are you up to at the moment?
I have just started a Youtube channel where kids can get their inventions made. Each month we set a different challenge, get kids to submit their ideas, choose one to make and then build and test it live on camera. It is lots of fun and things don’t usually go to plan.
What are your dreams?
To keep having fun and to inspire others into a STEM career.
Are there any surprising facts about you?
I sometimes sleep with my eyes open.
