I’m a big believer that theatre should be for everyone regardless of their, income, background or intellect.
Everyone should be allowed to enjoy and be inspired by art and expression.
So I’m pleased to see that once again Northern Ballet’s show for children will air on CBeebies.
It’s their fourth ballet for children this time it’s Tortoise & the Hare which will be broadcast on Easter Monday at 11am and 5pm.
We’ve been lucky enough to see Northern Ballet’s shows live as we live near Leeds where they are based and they offer very reasonably priced tickets which include a range of activities for families.
But I’m even more thrilled that we people can watch them at their leisure for free.
So get set to dance around your living room with the little ones as Northern Ballet’s dancers are joined by Mr. Bloom and the tiddlers for this very special television adaptation.
It’s a great way to inspire a new generation of theatre goers and dancers.
Let’s hope other theatres and channels can be as proactive in making theatre accessible for all rather than just the elite of society.
Also, if you’re reading this and are based in Yorkshire I’ve been asked to set up an informal kids dance, expression and movement workshop. It runs on the first Saturday of each month at 10am in Wakefield, full details here (pay what you can).
